Cultural Diversity in the Media

The movie A knights tale, made in the year 2001 is the story of a peasant boy William Thatcher (heath Ledger) who wins many tournaments and meets the Prince of Wales, Edward (James Purefoy). William pretends to be a knight with the help of his companions Roland (Mark Addy) and Wat (Alyn Tudyk) after they find their master Sir Ector (Nick Brimble) is dead due to health complications in the middle of a jousting tournament. Wat and Roland train William teach Willaim how to use the lance and prepare him for the other tournaments.

The toughest competitor turns out to be Sir Edward, who enters the tournament as Sir Thomas Colville. He changes his name only defeat his opponents. While getting ready for his competition, William falls in love with Jocelyn, a noble lady. He wins the French tournament and Jocelyn asks him to lose the tournament if he loves her. The poor peasant is forced to lose every tournament in spite of having the skill, talent and required funds.

The movie also talks about the sacrifice that Williams blind father makes, so his son is given an opportunity to have a better life. He sends William to work for Sir Ector. When William meets his father after his victory, he feels very happy and decides to work harder. When Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell), who is also in love with Jocelyn, comes to know who William really is, he arrests him.

Williams wins the final match after Prince Edward releases him. He makes Count Adhemar lose even though he gets injured while competing. Therefore, the movie is about a poor and weak peasant who turns out to be a strong and powerful hero, facing many obstacles and difficulties.
