The Globalization of Facebook

The most talked about social networking site in the world today  Facebook is actually a school project of Harvards Mark Zuckberg. Considered as the most user  friendly social networking site, Facebook allows users to share their lives through its status update feature. People do not need to compose a lengthy blog entry, instead, they simply write a short note about whats going on in their lives.
Perhaps the most addictive feature of Facebook is the ability to play games and quizzes. Many people say that this social networking site, which is already in its fifth year, is a combination of social networking and cybergaming. Facebook dethroned Myspace - the top social networking site for the past years. Indeed, there is no denying that Facebook is already a global phenomenon.

Globalization is defined as an economical, social and cultural process that involves the integration of various networks of communication and trade. Globalization may be defined in many ways.

Something is considered to be globalized when it occurs as a new phenomenon. However, globalization is not a new phenomenon. It has been a part of our everyday life. It contributes almost to ones innovation and development.

Globalization is considered as a driving force of growth and prosperity. Globalization is a complex phenomenon. It involves the interaction of man and his environment. Social, environmental, political and cultural factors may affect the interaction.

Economists and sociologists often associate this concept to technology. Technology is considered to be the principal driver of globalization. In a simpler sense, something can be considered as globalized when it has undergone a massive change brought about by technology. However, globalization, like all phenomena, has its benefits and costs to its principal actors and contributors.

The globalization of Facebook is very evident today. People turn to this social networking site as a daily routine. In fact, some people cant live a day without updating his status and checking his notifications. Facebook has gone a long way from a simple school project to a top social networking site.

Globalization brings Facebook, literally, close to our hands. Newest technological gadgets such as cellular phones offer a Facebook functionality. This fad enables people to have a handy social networking whenever and wherever. People can now upload over a million photos and videos every day, play games and applications, compose daily status updates in the instant touch of our fingers.
Erick Schonfeld, a technology news editor conducted a study that talked about the growth of active Facebook users in some parts of the world. He considers Facebook as a global business because almost all people in all parts of the world have turned into this social networking site.

Schonfelds results show that at each quarter of the year, active Facebook users have increased in number. There is evidence to say that Facebook has already built its social presence. Marketing of Facebook has strengthened because of the millions of active users around the world.

Globalization comes with a price. Facebook may be risky and risqu. The online content and online contact of this social networking site brings a new faade of social security and privacy. I think that most, if not all, of the users of Facebook simply click on the I accept the terms and conditions button without reading and comprehending the content of the message.

But what do these terms and conditions really mean Basically, upon clicking that button, we allow people to view our private information. In this highly globalized society, technology brings almost everything to the World Wide Web in just a matter of seconds. We all know that anything published in the Web can spread rapidly around the world. In the end, we must be aware that though globalization brings people close together, it can also bring people away from each other.

Before signing up to any social networking site such as Facebook, we must foresee the short  term and long  term consequences of publishing texts, pictures, and videos which may be publicly available in a second. Of course, I bet that you dont want to see your beach photo on a swim wear ad, your drunken photo on an alcoholic drink commercial, or the sweet picture of you and your lover in a condom ad. We have many options. After all, we have the edit security and privacy settings button. All we have to do is to be more vigilant in posting and sharing our private information. Its better to be secured than well  fashioned.

While people are currently enjoying the refreshing faade of Facebook, there is already some news that this social networking site is nearing its drop. According to some reports, people start complaining about the connection irregularities of Facebook. The notice, The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading or The site might be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments is already a common view to Facebook.

Some people are disgusted about this error especially when they are doing something that can really take time like uploading a hundred photos and videos, downloading applications or composing updates. Some say that Facebook is already going down. Addicted Facebook users say that the world has already ended because Facebook is down. Some say that they do not have friends anymore because Facebook is down.

Facebook has touched our lives in one way or another. Facebook has enabled us to reconnect with the people weve known before, and to establish relationships with people whom we just met. This social networking site has enabled us to expand our social and cultural view on man and our environment. Facebook introduced a new means of communicating. Surely, the most trafficked site in the world would allow every people of any age, culture and gender to easily keep in touch.

Indeed, Facebook has already taken its encore run in the lives of several people all around the globe. A person spending minutes of their lives for socializing in Facebook is an enough reason to say that Facebook is already a phenomenon. We use it to express our every move, feeling or just random thoughts.
